Our leadership team combines a complementary range of skills and experience to enable us to deliver the right advice in the right way to each client every time.

The leadership team has put together complex healthcare projects with multiple stakeholders and many sites, including successful public-private partnerships, as well as senior healthcare management consulting experience at the government and corporate level in several GCC and other developing countries.

We have an extensive track record of running successful hospitals, clinics and laboratory projects, and of leading clinical business turnarounds in the GCC region as well as the UK. We have the understanding of what makes healthcare organisations function effectively and we have been instrumental in developing significant patient volume growth, resulting in revenue and profit increase in each of the hospitals where we have been the executive management.

Additionally, we have experience working in private equity, investment banking, corporate finance, auditing and financial management to optimise the financial structure of our clients.

Mr. Michael Stroud, Partner

Michael Stroud

Michael has over 30 years of healthcare experience in the United Kingdom and the GCC, including 15 years in senior executive roles. Founding managing partner in Healthcare Associates Ltd (UK) and Gulf Healthcare Associates (UAE)

Originally trained as a Radiographer and still holds the record the youngest imaging head of department ever appointed in the NHS. With his extensive clinical background and management experience Michael has a unique insight into detailed operational and strategic healthcare management.

Michael has been a Hospital CEO for the last 20 years and has led some of the most prestigious private hospitals in the UK and the Gulf, including The Wellington Hospital, London, The Alexandra Hospital, Manchester, Welcare Hospital, Dubai, Al Ahli Hospital, Doha and CEO of University Hospital Sharjah. Most recently he was tasked with opening Al Jalila Childrens Hospital and the continued development of Mohammed Bin Rashid University Hospital in DHCC.

Dr. Peter Cruse, Partner

Dr. Peter Cruse

Healthcare leader with over 30 years experience, manager and problem-solver. Former medical doctor and clinical professor of surgical pathology, with MBA. Team leader and team player with extensive hospital management, healthcare start-up and practical management skills honed in five countries including UK, RSA, KSA, UAE and Oman.

Experienced in negotiating and implementing long term, complex healthcare projects with multiple stakeholders and sites, including successful public-private partnerships. Senior Healthcare management consulting track record at government and corporate level in several emerging market countries.

Special roles and skills : Hospital or polyclinic CEO, Healthcare turnarounds of underperforming facilities, Healthcare operations management (Clinical laboratories, hospitals, clinics), large scale Healthcare project management involving multiple stakeholders, nationalities and sites, Project financing and fund-raising, mergers and acquisitions and the formations of public-private partnerships (PPP), Joint Ventures and International Strategic partnerships.

Mr. Jens Nielsen, Partner

Jens Nielsen

Founding partner of Gulf Healthcare Associates. In this role has developed feasibility studies on behalf of new entrants and established healthcare operators and advised on financial management of healthcare organisations. Additionally developed, raised the funds, managed and subsequently managed the sales process of a multi-disciplinary paediatric centre in Dubai.

25 years of leadership experience, over 10 years as CFO and Company Secretary, strong hands-on commercial professional with business partnering and investment experience. Substantial experience working with boards of directors. Worked on projects in various industries including power & water (conventional and renewable power), healthcare, telecoms, technology, media, real estate, leasing, and venture capital/private equity.

Jens’ background is primarily within the financial services industry having qualified as an Accredited Chartered Accountant with PwC in England and subsequently working as an Investment Banker in the city of London with WestLB Panmure for over six years, originating and executing transactions ranging from equity capital market transactions to mergers and acquisitions.

Ms. Sonja Johnson, Project Director

Commercially focused leader with extensive management and leadership experience including, 17 years of progressive project and program management in business transformational roles throughout the Middle East, Asia and Australia across a wide variety of industries.

Track record of building successful and cohesive project management office (PMO) teams, creating and defining PMO strategy decisions, and measuring resource utilization to reduce bench time.

Acknowledged for mitigating risks, limiting impacts, and contextualizing solutions in line with business initiatives, strategies and objectives in the delivery of multi-million dollar projects.

Expert in Facilitating organizational and culture change, promoting multi-skilled team competencies via inspirational leadership, and partnering with executive teams to strategically position business.

Mr. Anil Acharya, Commercial Director

Working experience of over 15 years with international TPA and Healthcare Providers’, in areas of Operations ,Business Development, Provider networking Medical Insurance, Finance and Administration.

Successfully commissioned 15 medical facilities from creating Business Pan to starting operations with International board Quality accreditations.

Led a medical facility making losses for over 2 years to recover it’s losses in the first year of taking over the administration and transformed the unit to be the most profitable unit among 14 established units of the group.

Managed successful Operations and Business Development, in parallel ,for four units locally and one in Oman by achieving budgeted new business targets for a record consecutive 8 years.

Created & Developed cost efficient provider networks in GCC , Africa and Europe.

Successfully negotiated cost neutral transition of 800 plus providers in AUH & Al Ain from un coded pricelist to CPT coded pricelist ,HAAD regulated mandatory pricelist including DRG.

Maintained average cost per provider (Local and international) below expected minimum increase for 3 years, through strong logical analysis and introduction of efficient control measures.

Mr. Rajendiran Rathinam, Facilities Director

Experienced hands on senior management professional with nearly 30 years of experience in managing techno-managerial aspects related to bio-medical engineering at domestic and international levels in diverse roles across the organizational hierarchy.

Skilled in interacting with consultants, contractors and suppliers pertaining to medical equipment and furniture requirements including selection, procurement, delivery, accommodation, installation, testing and commissioning and staff training.

Track record of success in evaluating facility design and biomedical engineering (from design phase to commissioning) of hospital projects medical equipment pertaining to patient safety and operational services requirements.

Proven ability in implementing plans related to facility management and medical equipment encompassing room equipment lists, room data sheets, specifications, pre-installation requirements and bill of quantities (BOQ) etc., based on Activity Database (ADB) as well as electromechanical, structural and architectural parameters.

Subject matter expertise in translating planning concepts in to project deliverables for clients, designers and project team members to align with project scope, schedule and services during the contract process.

Mr. Mourad Quandour, Marketing Director

British National with 13 years combined work experience with a focus in in marketing communications across agency, client, and consultant roles in the last 7 years.

4 years working in UAE with day-to-day experience dealing with multinational, private and government entities at all levels to deliver narrative shaping work.

Cross industry experience in telecom with two of Europe’s largest telecom providers (BT & Orange), and in healthcare in the world’s largest healthcare free-zone project.

Experience in business development, branding, digital marketing, project management, building teams, change management, and trans media campaigns.

Digital native with a strong background in the customer journey shaping customer experiences in international markets.
